As some of you may already know, but probably most of you don't, A is setting up a baby shower for the Katrina victims that live across the street from us now. They are a great couple, about our age, and due w/ a little baby girl in Feb. Unfortunately, they lived in the lower 9th Ward in New Orleans, and when Hurricane Katrina hit, they lost everything. It's really amazing hearing them talk about what they've been through both during the evacuation, as well as the headache that it's been dealing with FEMA, insurance, and all the government entities and utility departments. Their house is still there, but it's moved off of its foundation. Their personal belongings are probably all gone, but whatever is still there is probably ruined bad enough to make it not worth taking. This includes all the baby-related stuff. They've got plenty of family in the area - I believe they're mostly in Katy. But so far, they only have the essentials like a crib, changing table, bassinet, etc.

Amy had organized a baby shower for another girl on our street a few years back, and it was a hit. This time, it's even more special, since it will be helping out someone who lost it all and is trying to rebuild. Amy put the word out to her friends on-line that have recently had babies, and has got a great response. Not even counting any gifts that this baby shower may bring in, we've already got a table full of gifts from the online girls.
